Ahmet Ümit was born in Gaziantep in 1960. He graduated from Marmara University, Department of Public Administration in 1983. Between 1985-1986, he studied politics at the Academy of Social Sciences in Moscow. His poems were published under the name of Street Stash in 1989. His first short story book, Barefooted Night, was published in 1992. A Voice Divides the Night, Agatha's Key, and the detective story books The Devil Is in the Details followed. He tried a different style with the books Tale Fairy Tale In and The Land Without Fairytales for both children and adults. His first novel, Fog and Night, written in 1996, was considered a masterpiece in detective literature.
Beyoğlu's Most Beautiful Brother is a detective novel written by Turkish writer Ahmet Ümit. In the novel, the events that develop with the discovery of a man's body in Tarlabaşı in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul and the murder investigation are narrated by the fictional character of the novel, Chief Inspector Nevzat.
